Home Block Riesling 2025

BACKGROUND

Next to the Collett family homestead, at the highest point on Woodstock Estate, lies our Home Block Riesling vineyard. The deep sandy soil and northern exposure make this an ideal spot for growing exceptional grapes. While McLaren Vale is known for its warm to hot climate, our unique microclimate is perfect for producing this fragrant style of Riesling. The vineyard benefits from cooling sea and gully breezes in the summer acting as natural air conditioning on those baking hot days. We also harvest the grapes at night to preserve their vibrant aromas and crisp acidity.

WINEMAKING

Like 2024, we had a warm and dry beginning of the 2025 vintage, resulting in ripe fruit flavours and low but concentrated yields. Harvesting early in the season preserved the crisp, natural acidity needed for this style of wine. The grapes were cold-pressed, settled, and transferred to stainless steel tank for fermentation at cool temperatures. The finished wine, matured entirely in stainless steel, was bottled in June to maintain its fresh flavour and aromatic qualities. 

TASTING NOTE

This Riesling is effortlessly bright and lifted, displaying citrus blossom, honeysuckle, and Tahitian lime. While bursting with aromatic animation on the nose, the palate also delivers flavour. Lemon lollies and lime splice come to mind, followed by mouthwatering yet balanced acidity with slight structural minerality. An elegant and perfumed style of white for any occasion.

FROM THE WINEMAKER

‘The 2025 Home Block Riesling is a great follow-up to the 2024 vintage. Crisp natural acidity and delicate flavours were carefully captured thanks to pristine grape growing, night harvesting and thoughtful winemaking. It’s made in a style that raises eyebrows and makes people pause with a ‘ooh, what’s that I just tried?’ kind of reaction. You’ll notice bright lime and spring jasmine on the nose and a balanced palate with that clean, mineral finish. It’s fresh and lively with enough depth to keep you coming back for more.’ - Peter Collett
